案例分析 Ten workers in China pushed their boss’s car three miles home after an office party because they were all too drunk to drive. The group was enjoying a meal at a restaurant in downtown Changchun, Jilin Province (northeast China). When the party was over, Boss Zhang Fei found that he was too drunk to drive. Then suddenly they realized nobody had stayed sober enough to drive his car. Drink-driving was listed as a dangerous offence in China in 2014, especially when the driver is drunk. Those who break the law will have their driving license revoked, face a heavy fine and may be put in jail. Zhang did not want to leave his car downtown and it was too late to call out another driver to drive the car for him. Someone then suggested they push the car home, and said that the exercise would do them all good. Thus, all ten quickly agreed and set off with Zhang at the wheel. All ten workers pushed their boss’s car home through the city streets, laughing and singing during the 45-minute journey.
Traffic officers said that as long as the car’s engine was not running, it would not be classed as drink-driving under the law. However, it is still very dangerous for so many people to push the car along the road, as it may cause traffic accidents.
案例分析 In the past, American families tended to be quite large. Parents raising five or more children were common. Over the years, the size of the family is becoming smaller. One reason for this is an increase in the cost of living. Generally children attend schools for more years than they used to, making them financially dependent on their families longer. Moreover, children nowadays are better dressed and have more money to spend on entertainment. The parents are usually responsible for all the expenses. And families are less close than they used to be. More and more American mothers work away from home. The break-up of the family appears when the parents divorce. A lot of children in the U. S. live part of their young lives with only one parent. Children grow up feeling unsettled as they are moved between their parents. Single parents often marry other single parents. In this type of family, unrelated children are forced to develop brother or sister relationship. The situations of many American families today are not good. However, recent signs show that things are getting better. The divorce rate is declining (降低). Perhaps Americans have learned how important families are.

Mary LETTER 2 Dear Mary, Cook something that would let you spend time with your guests. If a guest offers to help you in the kitchen, accept the offer. It often makes people feel more comfortable when they can help. Before serving dinner, while your guests make small talks in the living room, offer them drinks. Some guests may like wine, but make sure to provide soft drinks for people who don’t. At the dinner table, let your guests serve themselves. Offer them a second serving after they finish, but don’t ask more than once. Most guests will take more if they want. Perhaps the most important rule of all is to be natural. Treat your guests as you want them to treat you when you’re in their home—that is, act naturally toward them, and don’t try too hard to be polite. Have a good time in a pleasant atmosphere. Yours, Ann
